( what did she know? that they cared about each other, that they enjoyed each other's company, that he made her feel wanted and desired and appreciated and special, in a way she hadn't expected. but exclusivity or a lack thereof hadn't been discussed so much as stepped around delicately — he knew she'd seen baby, as casually as that had been. and knew that it was over; she knew, too, of his brief history with a girl from home, but nothing beyond it. she'd never assumed he'd been alone save for their time together. why should she? )
