Wherever you feel like driving to, baby.

( it's how he introduces himself, sure, but she's not exactly predisposed to believe that a mother would consciously name her child baby. not that she's going to call him out on it. easier just to play along, to turn the proper name into a term of affection. the petname feels sweet in her mouth, almost sincere as it drawls between her lips, easy as apple pie.

there's little hesitation, either, in the reach of her hand, the pads of her fingertips trailing along the leather of the seat before dipping into the console, nimble fingers curving around the ipod. it's an almost vintage touch, somehow both fitting and an interesting contrast in this classic car.

he's offered her playlist privileges, which comes as a little bit of a surprise to her; though her texts are easy-going, almost playfully non-chalant, kimberly does take her time as she scrolls through the long list of artists and songs on the digital screen. his musical taste is varied, with both songs she recognizes and some she's never heard of flashing across the display, the list dragging up and down while she flits between options. it's a mystery. she likes those. it's a challenge, to figure him out, to find out where each of these songs comes from.

finally, as the last bars of his first selection fade in the speakers, kimberly presses play on her choice and rests the ipod back in its nook. )

I'm just here for the ride. And the driver.
